Our organisations and activities include:
Tayinloan Youth Club
Elders from A’Chleit are supporting the parents and children from Tayinloan to start up a Youth Club which will meet in Tayinloan Hall on Friday evenings in school term time from 6:30pm to 8pm.
Badminton and arts and crafts are some of the activities which the young people want to do.
The Art Group meets every Monday at 10.30am to 12.30pm in A’Chleit Hall. Members and friends from our three congregations and the wider community are welcome. Participants work on their own paintings using a variety of materials and genre. During the summer, some of our artists opt to work outside and capture the beauty of our coastal landscape.
A’Chleit Church runs two badminton clubs in Glenbarr Hall. These welcome players from church and community. Junior Badminton takes place on Saturdays from 7.15pm until 9.00pm and all school-age children are welcome. Senior Badminton, for adult participants is on Tuesdays from 8.15pm until 10.00pm.
Photographs show children who attend the Glenbarr Badminton Club featuring prominently in the list of prize-winners at both the Kintyre and Argyll and Bute Badminton Championships.
Clachan Friendship Cuppa
The Clachan congregation meets for tea/coffee/baking after worship on the first Sunday of each month to enjoy the company of friends and to keep in touch with pastoral needs in the parish.
A’Chleit Church Guild meets on the first Wednesday of each month between September and April in A’Chleit Hall at 2.00pm.
Clachan Church Guild meets on the second Thursday of each month between September and April in Clachan Village Hall at 2.30pm.
A’Chleit Guild regularly holds a “tea and chat ” afternoon which is very well attended.
A’Chleit and Clachan Churches share leadership of Messy Church. We meet in Tayinloan Hall four times a year and also host a summer barbecue on A’Chleit Beach. Having covered the main Christian Festivals over the past year, Messy Church currently focusses on Bible stories to tell children and families of God’s Love.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets on the first Wednesday of every month in A’Chleit Hall at 10.00am until 12 noon. All three congregations take part in knitting and crocheting shawls, blankets, crosses and also gifts for children and babies. These are then blessed and gifted throughout our parishes, the wider Hub, nationally and internationally. The Prayer Shawl Ministry was recently involved in sending gifts to the victims and survivors of the Grenfell Tower disaster.
Sunday School is available in A’Chleit and Clachan churches whenever children come to worship. Gigha Church holds occasional Family Services to welcome children. Our main outreach to children takes place through Elders and the Hub Minister working as school chaplains and through Messy Church.
We also support The Mairi Semple Fund
The Mairi Semple Fund is a cancer relief charity based in our parishes and involving several church members and friends. The charity was established in memory of Mairi, a young person who died from cancer some years ago. It takes part in extensive fundraising and works with local medical staff to distribute funds where needed.
